My name is Graeme Barber, and I have become a writer in the most roundabout way possible. I've always been creative, and got into the habit of writing through a common entry point: tabletop RPGs. And that's where it stayed for ages, until after I'd had multiple tours overseas with the Canadian Army, after I'd worked as a commercial and scientific diver, and was finally settling down. Then RPGs were back as I became first a critic, then a writer, for RPG content. And along the way my good friend Diane convinced me to do a NaNoWriMo, and I succeeded in 2016! Now I'm doing the creative thing full-time, and it's time to write!   My writing career so far has been game oriented, with highs like being involved with Blue Planet: Recontact, Hard Wired Island, and Rivers of London. I've also written my own games, where Fight City: The Roleplaying Game has been a surprise success. I love world building and now I'm bringing it all together here.

Interests & Hobbies

Scuba diving is the biggest one, I also enjoy range days and putting holes in paper, swimming, and a variety of other activities. I also low key keep my hand in archaeology and continue to be fascinated by Carthage.

Favorite Movies

I have a serious weakness for Hong Kong action movies from the 70's through the 90's. And 00's. And 10's. And 20's... Not just the Jackie Chan or Sammo Hung ones. Like, all of the them. I love watching them!

Favorite TV Series

Live Action
I like classic shows like Columbo, Red Dwarf, Space: Above and Beyond, Stargate SG1, and a lot of British comedy. But I've definitely got time for modern shows though, and stuff like Black Lightning and Murderbot are at the top of the list there!
Cartoons
I watch a lot of cartoon, they're one of my favourite forms of western media. Faves here include the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited series, Adventure Time, Steven Universe, Young Justice, Teen Titans Go!, and things like the old Iron Man and Hulk: Agents of SMASH shows.
Anime
I like anime. I enjoy stuff like Restaurant to Another World, Flying Witch, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, and classics like Bubblegum Crisis, Ruin Explorers, and Armor Hunter Mellowlink. Love the VOTOMS series, and a lot of Macross as well.

Favorite Books

Mostly science fiction. so, much science fiction!

  • Laundry Files series by Charles Stross
  • Honor Harrington series by David Weber
  • Hammer's Slammers series by David Drake
  • The Deed of Paksenarrion by Elizabeth Moon
  • Mighty Good Road by Elizabeth Scott
  • The Fifth Millenium series by S.M. Stirling et al.
  • Santiago: Myth of the Far Future by Mike Resnik
  • the Warhammer 40k novels (these are my trash, leave me be!)

Favorite Games

Videogames
I enjoy a lot of classic JRPGs, we're talking 16bit stuff, and I do a lot of handheld console gaming (PSP, GBA, DS Lite, 3DS...). I'm also a giant fan of GTA V, and play a lot of arcade style racers like NFS Heat, NFS Unbound, and Forza Horizons 5. Never got into MMORPGs though.
Tabletop RPGs
Traveller is always a favourite, and I've enjoyed FATE's different versions, I have a love/hate relationship wiht Open Legend, and I have so many notes from back in the day from TriStat dX and Fuzion. Fantasy wise, I enjoy Pathfinder (both editions) and Basic Fantasy.
Board & Card Games
I love classics like Scabble and newer games like Onitama. I know no mercy and ask for none in Uno.
