Background



When you travel past where the Forest Roads end there is no guarantee you will ever see another person again. This is the far North, hundreds of miles of wilderness past the frontier city of Etonia and its forest villages. The trees and mountains claimed this land centuries ago for their own. The few hunters that venture out into the region report that both move to block your path North.   A seasonal outpost, the Innerst Tannery , was set up on the Southern edge of the region. Three day's walk North of Pale Gear will get you to the outpost. Hunters bring their trophies to be prepared for travel South. At the outpost they can find a safe place to rest. The buildings are secured during the late fall as the workers and hunters return to Etonia until Spring.   Farms only reach a day's walk North of Ander's End, the Northern most of the forest villages. Those that locate further North are not heard from again. Hunters are known to find remains or an abandoned homes years later.   Ruins dot the region but are hard to uncover in the dense forests. Sages from the Avast Library have made short excursions into the region. Treasure hunters and archeologists from Mage schools in the South have also funded expeditions with limited success.  

Life Abounds



Stories collected from hunters tell of a land filled with elk, moose, bears, and fantastical creatures- that may or may not be true as each seems crafted to outdo the previous. The rivers are filled with fish and host spawning grounds for Salmon like the bay around Etonia. The land seems to empower gigantism as record breaking elk are found each year.   A family of gentle giants moved South and settled in the hills near Monsilt and Treir. The towering humanoids have gladly traded with farmers and are talented in their understanding of nature.   The indigenous people of the forest spread North at some point but lost contact with tribes that traveled into the region. Some of those travelers have returned speaking of settlements with names like Heldefjell and Stigaby. These representatives are marked with stone tattoes and infusions under their skin. They are curious about the people in Etonia, engaging in limited trade, but refuse to take travelers North and share few stories.

There is something beautiful yet intimidating about an endless forest. A nice place to rest at the edge, but too scary to venture into deeply.
