Magnus
Magnus moved as fast as he could as he pulled the rest of flight suit, and helmet on. Flight Three was already out when the raiders appeared, and Flight One had already launched, and it seemed undetected. He passed by Edwyn, and Richard as they climbed into their own starfighters. Flight Four was already leaving the outpost.
“Fuck fuck fuck,” Magnus heard Richard whisper through their comm as he reached his own Starlance. “Three corvettes, and a destroyer, we can’t take those odds.”
“Of course we can,” Lt Yoke replied.
“It’s the destroyer that will be the issue,” Edwyn added. “The corvettes will fall in the opening attacks if we time it right.”
Magnus nodded even though he knew no one could see him. He brought his starlance online, and quickly ran through the preflight check as all systems came online.
“Flight Two, launch,” Lt Yoke ordered, and Magnus brought his starfighter in line with the rest as they joined the rest of the other five members of his flight as they made their way through the large open hangar doors of the outpost, and the energy shield that kept the dangers of space out.
Magnus looked at his display screen as he took in the blimps of the four raiding Tutha vessels. His sensors, like all that of Green Squadron were tied into the outpost, and sensor platform, and he could see the other starfighters of his squadron as the four vessels made it past the six starfighters of Flight One as they hide on asteroids.
There was always a chance that the low power mode the rest of the starfighters were in would be picked up, but the sensors didn’t show any change in the ships as they made their way through the asteroid fields. Magnus hoped that they would like like nothing but drifting asteroids to the raiders.
“Orders coming through,” Magnus heard from his comms, and hoped that those signals also weren’t picked up. “Launch on my mark,” the major continued.
“Fuck,” Magnus heard Edwyn say as the orders show Flight Two launching their attack on the destroyer. They were to wait for the lone weapons platform to come within weapons range. There was that at least, and maybe they would get lucky, and none of the ships would get their defensive measures online.
Magnus watched as the four raiders got closer and closer. They were well inside Commonwealth Space. He never thought in the long weeks since their arrival that they would ever see any ships, much less have them fall right on top of them, and he felt sorry for the unsuspecting raiders, almost.
“Launch,” Major Oldseal ordered, and Magnus brought his starfighter to full power, and into attack vector.
The weapon’s platform, disguised like anyone of a thousand tiny asteroids opened up fire on the small fleet as Flight Three launched missiles from behind them. A dozen missiles slammed into the rear most raider starship before it knew what had happened, and even as the last missile hit, fresh missiles came in from Flight Four, and One, and Magnus launched his own towards the destroyer which began to open fire on the missiles from the weapons platform.
More weapons fire hit the corvettes, and bright explosion fell across their hulls as missiles, lasers, and railgun fire hit it. One of the corvettes blew in a massive explosion. A second corvette seemed to lose control before it slammed into an asteroid while the third seemed to lose life support, and engines.
Magnus, and Flight Two were on top of the destroyer as it finally seemed to realize what was happening, and he targeted weapon turrets. In a moment it seemed to end as air, and water began to vent from the massive ship.
“Getting hails of surrender Major,” Magnus heard.
“Hold your fire, begin rescue operations,” Major Oldseal said.
“Fuck,” Richard said with a tone of amazement. “How the fuck do we hold that many prisoners?”
